Plumber on the Way? Be Sure to Prepare Your Home!

Category: Plumbing Repairs

Are you experiencing plumbing issues? Why, then, you’ll need to call a plumber over to your Des Moines home to get those issues resolved. But before your plumber arrives, you should take a few moments to be sure your home is ready for him or her.

This might sound like a major job in and of itself, but it’s really a no-brainer, and it will take you all of a few minutes. And the benefits you’ll enjoy because of this work are well worth it: quicker service, more accurate work, and perhaps even lowered plumbing expenses (thanks to the quicker work).

If you’re not sure how to go about preparing your Des Moines home for a visit from your plumber, then just read on. In this article, we’ll tell you three steps you should always take when expecting a plumber.

Schedule Your Appointment Smartly

In many cases, your plumber will need someone to be home before they can get any work done. This is often so someone can be home to let the plumber in and to explain the problem and show the plumber to the source (or supposed source) of the problem.

So, as you schedule an appointment with your Des Moines plumber, be sure that your timeslot is during a time when you or someone else can be free to wait at home. Also be sure to be very clear as you schedule your plumbing appointment in case your window of time is very limited so that your plumber is aware that they need to be extra careful with your time.

Clean Out the Work Area

You may not know the exact cause of your plumbing issues (there is a reason you’re calling a plumber, after all), but in many cases, you might have some idea of where the problem could originate. And should you know whereabouts your plumber might need to work, take a few minutes to clear it out.

Just consider the areas that your plumber is likely to be working: the laundry room, under the kitchen sink, the water closet, etc. Those areas are all likely to be loaded with things that you otherwise have nowhere else to put. So, with a plumber on the way, be sure to take a moment and clear out those things.

Contain Your Pets

Your pets are a light in your life, for sure, and most good pets — dogs especially — are two things: curious and friendly. And while those qualities are great for making your life with your furry child that much better, they’re not so great for getting your plumbing work done in the quickest amount of time possible.

If you think your pets are likely to be too curious and too social to let your plumber work their fastest, then be sure to contain your furry ones. Without the adorable but distracting attention, your plumber will be able to focus and get the work done accurately and quickly.
